Parents and carers – is your young person leaving school this year?

Find out how you can support them at Skills Development Scotland’s online session on 22 April at 6:30pm. You can join the session by registering here.

As thousands of young people prepare to leave school this summer, Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is offering an online session to help parents and carers support their children as they take this important next step.

Scotland’s career service has organised the virtual session on Thursday 22 April. It will have information about options and how to access a wide range of support.

SDS Careers Advisers Amy Gordon and Louise Fowlie will be providing expert advice and there will be an opportunity during the session for parents and carers to ask questions.

Amy said: “Moving on from school means young people making significant decisions about what they want to do next and support from their parents and carers is important and valuable at this time.

“Our online session will give parents and carers information about the options and opportunities that are available. Help is also available on SDS’s online home for career information and advice My World of Work.”

S4, S5, S6 What Next? Free Virtual Event

On Thursday 18 March from 6.30-7.30 pm DYW North East (Developing the Young Workforce) will be holding a free virtual event for parents/carers and young people to highlight the range of pathways on offer in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Senior phase pupils (S4-S6) will be preparing for their next steps, whether that is to stay in education or to enter the world of work. It can be a confusing landscape and as a parent or carer, you have a leading role when your child is making decisions about their career.

The free information session will help inform you about the wide range of pathways available to young people and support them on their journey beyond school.

Hear from the following local employers and further/higher education providers who have experience in supporting young people into the workplace in a variety of different pathways.

  • Skills Development Scotland
  • Bon Accord Care
  • Balfour Beatty
  • NESCol
