Now known as the DofE, this voluntary, non-competitive programme is open to all pupils between S3 and S6. It is an extra curricular activity offered at three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold. To gain the Award, a pupil has to spend a certain amount of time helping as a volunteer, developing a skill, developing a physical programme and undertaking an expedition. In addition, Gold candidates have to spend a week on a residential experience. At the present time around 60 pupils and six members of staff are involved in the scheme. To find out more, come along to a drop-in session over Tuesday lunchtime in the Social Subjects Open Plan area, room 308, or speak to Mr Ferguson, School Co-ordinator. Alternatively, log into www.dofe.org.
Thanks to all for their support of our Jeans for Genes Day on Thursday 19th September. Pupils and staff paid for the privilege of wearing something denim on the day and so far have raised over £300 to support children with genetic disorders. Watch this space for information on our Children in Need fundraising in the run up to Friday 15th November.
