Shell and the Ferrari F1 Racing Team hosted an exciting day at the University of Aberdeen on Tuesday 18th November. Thirteen pupils from Dyce Academy attended. Following a talk about forces the pupils got into teams and constructed a KÂNex car that used gears to help it race down a purpose-built track way. They were then asked to rejig their designs to enable them to climb the two hills placed on the track. The times of the cars were then taken together over the two runs and one of the Dyce Academy teams was the fastest. The 4 boys were presented with a fantastic watch each by Ferrari test driver Marc Gene. Marc spent time with all the teams and signed pictures for the pupils.
The second part of the day took place at Satrosphere with a variety of science-based activities which included building a small kit car powered by salt water. All the pupils really enjoyed this activity and were pleased to take their cars home. Pupil accounts of the day and more photographs will appear in the end of term Update.
